Food Technology

Key Stage 4

KS4
Food Technology

We believe that school should enhance everyday life skills alongside academic learning. Our intent within Food Technology is to give students the skills to plan, budget and cook effectively in order to develop holistic kitchen and cooking skills as they grow up and head into adulthood. Our curriculum intends to provide learners with the knowledge of how to maintain a healthy and economical lifestyle, the ability to become more independent and prepare them for caring for themselves and others around them in later life.

KEY STAGE 4

The KS4 Food Technology Curriculum aims to allow all learners who engage and attend well a recognised Level 2 BTEC in Home Cooking Skills. Students actively engage in a BTEC Specialist work related qualification and have access to one lesson per week totalling two hours of learning time (which comprises of both theory and practical work).

The Pearson BTEC Level 1 and Level 2 Awards in Home Cooking Skills are suitable for learners to develop:

• knowledge, understanding and confidence to cook meals at home

• an understanding of how to economise when planning a meal

• an ability to transfer skills learned to different recipes

• an ability to inspire others by transferring that knowledge.
