Information Technology

Key Stage 4

The use of computers is interweaved into everyday life. Our intent within IT is to give students the skills to use technology effectively in order to be computer literate. Our curriculum intends to prepare pupils for the demands of the 21st century and the technological world that awaits them in the future. As well as the huge potential of technology, we teach our students to understand the challenges and problems it can create. We teach them to become good digital citizens, to know how to stay safe and keep others safe online.

KEY STAGE 4

The KS4 IT Curriculum aims to allow all learners who engage and attend well a recognised Pearson L1 introduction to Information Technology. Students actively engage in a mandatory unit A2 (Personal Progression Plan) which is delivered to support CEIAG and IT6 (Using digital information technologies) where students are able to better understand the effective and safe use of email, internet and social media. Students have access to 2 lessons per week totalling 1 hour and 45 minutes (Y11) or 1 x 60 minute lesson per week (Y10).

Areas covered within KS4 include:

A2:

  • Explore the skills and behaviours needed to meet personal progression goal.
  • Produce a progression plan to meet intended goals.

IT6:

  • Demonstrate the use of digital communication technologies for a given purpose.
  • Demonstrate communication skills in a variety of ways when using digital communication technologies for a given purpose.
