How we support accessibility
We are committed to improving accessibility and ensuring our website meets the requirements of the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
This website uses a combination of:
- Good practice design following WCAG 2.1 AA.
- An accessibility support tool (“Accessibility Now” plugin) which allows visitors to adjust text size, contrast, spacing, and other visual preferences.
Important note about overlays: The Accessibility Now plugin provides additional usability options, but automated tools cannot solve all accessibility issues. We continue to manually review and improve the site to ensure it is fully accessible to as many users as possible.
How accessible this website is
We know that some parts of this website are not fully accessible:
- Some PDF and policy documents may not be fully tagged or screen-reader friendly.
- Some images may not yet have complete or accurate alt text.
- Some older content may not meet colour contrast best practice.
- Third-party content embedded on the site (such as YouTube videos) may not be fully accessible.
We are working on resolving these issues as part of an ongoing accessibility improvement plan.
What we are doing to improve accessibility
Our current improvement programme includes:
- Reviewing and fixing page heading structures.
- Updating missing or unclear alt text.
- Remediating PDFs or providing accessible HTML alternatives.
- Ensuring new content meets WCAG 2.1 AA.
- Auditing third-party embeds and improving captions or alternatives.
- Reviewing automated tool reports from the Accessibility Now plugin and applying manual fixes where required.
