KEY STAGE 4

At KS4, students follow a carefully sequenced curriculum designed to take them from their starting point through to GCSE success, building confidence and fluency in mathematics along the way. At GCSE level, students have the opportunity to sit Edexcel Foundation or Higher tier.

We encourage all students to develop a positive attitude towards mathematics and to recognise its importance in everyday life and future careers. This is achieved through a curriculum that balances core knowledge with problem solving, helping learners to understand not just how maths works, but why it matters.
Students strengthen their understanding of number through topics such as factors, multiples and standard methods, before building into algebra, including simplifying expressions, solving equations and working with formulae. These skills are developed alongside key areas of geometry, ratio and proportion, statistics and probability, ensuring a broad and connected mathematical experience.

Lessons are sequenced to build secure foundations and revisit key concepts, allowing students to deepen their understanding over time. Regular practice and real-life application help students apply their knowledge to practical situations, from financial literacy and data interpretation to measurement and logical reasoning.
By the end of KS4, students are equipped not only with the skills needed for examination success, but also with the confidence to use mathematics effectively in real-life contexts and future pathways.
