Our Outdoor Education provision allows learners to experience activities outside of the classroom. The breadth covered is vast and allows learning through many different opportunities and methods. Focus is on the holistic development of our learners to help them to become well-rounded individuals. Outdoor Education staff are well trained and will always listen to pupil voice for ideas and interests that students may have. In addition to this, students will also be taken out of their comfort zones at times to really help build key skills such as confidence and resilience. At present, activities can include; hiking, climbing, ice skating, crazy golf, badminton and watersports. All activities focus on developing those key skills that help all learners become strong members of the community, great team players,
Duke of Edinburgh Award:
We offer the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award to our learners in years 10 and 11. All learners work hard to complete the four sections of skills, physical, volunteering and the expedition. In preparation for the expedition, learners are guided through a series of training days where they learn map reading skills, setting up camp, cooking skills and first aid. They then spend two days completing their expedition – usually in April – with an overnight camp.
Forest School:
Learners have the opportunity to take part in a variety of forest school sessions where they learn key skills to stay safe. Learners can complete activities alone or as part of a team with activities really asking them to think and consider thoughts, feelings, hope and wishes. Learners also work on making fires which they can cook on as well as using tools to make tent pegs for shelters, furniture such as stools and even picture frames!
Overall, our Outdoor Education provision works to help learners thrive and feel comfortable in the community. It helps them build a variety of key skills and helps them to enjoy each and every day!
